Police: Mother And Newborn Killed In Phoenix Crash After Vehicle Runs Red Light

A woman and her newborn baby were in a crash in north Phoenix late Saturday night, according to Phoenix police.

Around 11:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a crash near Loop 101 and 19th Avenue.

Officers arrived to find a pregnant female passenger with critical injuries, according to Phoenix police. The Phoenix Fire Department transported her to a nearby hospital, where medical staff delivered the baby.

According to authorities, both the mother and the child were eventually confirmed dead.

The adult male driver of the same vehicle was also sent to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Phoenix police, the driver of the second vehicle remained on the site and was not hurt. Investigators said they discovered no signs of impairment.

According to preliminary evidence, the driver of the vehicle carrying the woman failed to stop at a red light and collided with the second vehicle, which was driving eastbound on Beardsley Road.

The investigation is underway.
