Orlando Police apprehended a suspect in connection with a downtown shooting that occurred during a late-night altercation near Church Street and Orange Avenue.
The Orlando Police Department’s Fugitive Unit apprehended Devan Cameron Upshaw on July 1 in connection with the June 28 shooting. According to police, the incident caused a huge disruption in downtown Orlando and put people’s safety at risk.
Upshaw, born on March 24, 2001, faces two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and culpable negligence, according to police.
The arrest follows an incident that occurred at 2:30 a.m. on June 28, when officers responded to reports of gunfire near Church Street and Orange Avenue. Police earlier stated that the gunshot resulted from an interaction between two groups of people that developed into a physical brawl.
During the confrontation, a woman was wounded in the foot by a pistol. The victim suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was sent to a local hospital for treatment.
Police stated the agency is still dedicated to ensuring safety and order in Orlando’s downtown sector.
“Acts of violence that threaten public safety will not be tolerated, and OPD will continue to hold offenders accountable,” the police agency warned.
The case is still under investigation. Any additional court procedures will determine how the charges progress.
