A 66-year-old man died early yesterday as a result of a horrific chain reaction incident on Pearl Road near Bradwell Avenue in Cleveland when he was hit by one automobile, pushed into the opposite lane, and then hit again. Officers arrived around 2:07 a.m. to find the man seriously injured on the road. One driver had already left, while another remained behind, and the victim was transported to a hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead. The Cleveland Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit is currently handling the matter.
According to News 5 Cleveland, cops were summoned to the vicinity of Pearl Road and Bradwell Avenue about 2:07 a.m. after receiving reports of a person being struck. According to investigators, a northbound vehicle collided with the 66-year-old man, forcing him into southbound traffic, where he was struck again by another vehicle. According to police, the first driver left the scene, but the second remained and spoke with officers. The Accident Investigation Unit is gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to piece together the timeline of events.
According to the Ohio Revised Code, any driver engaged in a crash on a public road must stop and submit identifying information. Leaving without doing so is a criminal violation. When a crash results in a death, the law provides for felony charges, with the level of felony determined by variables such as whether the driver was aware that a fatality had happened.
