A New York man was apprehended after allegedly using multiple stolen credit cards to spend hundreds of dollars at Giant Eagle.
According to information given on Wednesday by Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli, police were summoned to the Giant Eagle on Route 30 in North Huntingdon Township on Tuesday.
A loss prevention officer reported seeing Quansheng Niu of New York grab many gift cards and some groceries before walking to the checkout.
Authorities claim Niu was witnessed making three transactions with eight different credit cards stored on his phone. Two of the cards were refused.
Police claimed he spent $552.47 on gift cards, water, and other food items.
According to the announcement, loss prevention received a contact from a bank reporting that stolen credit cards were used in the transaction.
North Huntingdon Police contacted Niu, who stated that he could not speak English and did not have any identification.
Police claimed they later received a driver’s license from Flushing, New York, which was discovered inside Niu’s vehicle.
Officers think he also attempted to make transactions with stolen credit cards at a Giant Eagle in Hempfield Township.
The Department of Homeland Security was also notified. They informed police that Niu was in the country illegally.
Niu is being jailed without bail.
