Brooklyn man sentenced for drug possession and bail jumping in Putnam

A 46-year-old Brooklyn man will spend the next four years in the New York State Department of Corrections after pleading guilty in Putnam County Court to drug possession and bail jumping.

Michael Carroll, according to District Attorney Robert Tendy, is a repeat criminal offender who was stopped by a deputy sheriff on the Taconic State Parkway in Putnam Valley in March 2021 for various traffic offenses.

Tendy claimed Carroll gave police a fictitious name and date of birth.

When deputies examined Carroll’s car, they reportedly discovered 1,500 methamphetamine pills and pill fragments weighing more than two ounces.

Carroll was indicted for bail jumping after failing to appear in Putnam Valley Court, and he was eventually discovered and jailed in September.

Tendy regarded the 1,500 methamphetamine pills and shards as a large quantity, implying Carroll may have divided them for sale. “It was dangerous stuff,” he remarked. “When arrested in 2021, he failed to appear in court, and a warrant was issued. We were fortunate to get him back. The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office did an excellent job making the original arrest and later hunting him down. First Assistant DA Breanne Smith also performed an excellent job prosecuting the case.”
