4.1-magnitude earthquake hits Kern County’s Frazier Park area; 2.9 aftershock follows, USGS says

A magnitude-4.1 earthquake struck the Frazier Park area in Kern County early Sunday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The earthquake hit just after 3:30 a.m. about 1 mile southeast of Frazier Park, the USGS said. The USGS ShakeAlert system also activated.

The quake initially registered at magnitude 4.2 before the USGS downgraded it to 4.1.

A magnitude-2.9 aftershock followed in the area just before 11 a.m., the USGS reported.

Neither quake immediately produced reports of injuries or damage.

Frazier Park sits along the Interstate 5 corridor in the mountains of southwestern Kern County, about 70 miles north of Los Angeles.
