Man apprehended nine months after downtown COTA bus stop stabbing

A man is facing a felonious assault charge months after allegedly stabbing another man at a bus stop in downtown Columbus.

According to court filings, Darren J. Wooden, 43, was apprehended Wednesday in connection with a stabbing on October 7, 2025, on East Main Street and South High Street.

Columbus police say officers responded to Grant Medical Center after the victim, identified in court records as Jonathan Moses, arrived with multiple stab wounds. Investigators discovered Moses had been stabbed while waiting at a COTA bus stop near the crossing.

Detectives found security video from a COTA bus that showed parts of the confrontation, including an individual who allegedly held a knife during the incident. Columbus Police later shared still photographs from the video on social media, asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the perpetrator.

According to authorities, a woman who recognized the photographs contacted police and identified the culprit as Darren Wooden, stating that she had known him since infancy and had previously been in a relationship with him.

Police then showed the victim a six-photo lineup. According to court documents, the victim recognized Wooden as the man who stabbed him.

Wooden has been charged with felony assault. The motive for the stabbing has not been revealed.

The case is still under investigation.
