17 people indicted after 15-month investigation into Akron drug trafficking operation

A 15-month investigation into a drug trafficking operation operating in Akron has resulted in the indictment of 17 people, 15 of whom face federal charges, police said Friday.

The Akron Police Department’s Narcotics Unit spearheaded the investigation in partnership with the US Drug Enforcement Administration, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the US Marshals Service.

According to authorities, detectives discovered a drug trafficking pipeline between Akron and Pennsylvania.

According to police, 15 people were indicted in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio on charges of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Ohio has indicted two more persons on state narcotics counts.

During the investigation, investigators seized almost 15 pounds of methamphetamine, approximately 50 grams of fentanyl, and two firearms.

In a statement, Akron police attributed the arrests to coordination among local, state, and federal law enforcement organizations working to disrupt narcotics trafficking in the region.
