A Mississippi woman is facing criminal charges following an investigation into the fraudulent receipt of thousands of dollars in public assistance benefits, state officials said.
Kia Mays, a Claiborne County resident, was arrested on June 24, 2026, after an investigation by the Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS) revealed she had unlawfully obtained $25,124 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments.
MDHS submitted the case to the Claiborne County District Attorney’s Office, who indicted Mays on June 9, 2026.”This is an excellent example of collaboration among our investigations team, MDHS county offices, District Attorneys, and local law enforcement,” stated MDHS Inspector General Sandra Griffith.
