The Watertown Police Department arrested two people for welfare fraud in different cases involving thousands of dollars in food stamp payments.
First case
Lisa Lalone, 54, of Carthage, is accused of obtaining $10,512 in food stamp benefits she did not qualify for.
Investigators say she provided incorrect information on her public assistance applications from December 2020 to October 2022.
Second case
In a separate incident, city police arrested George Bevens, 26, of Hot Springs, Arkansas. He allegedly took $5,278 in food stamp payments from September 2024 to June 2025 by providing false information to the Jefferson County Department of Social Services.
Charges
Bevens and Lalone were charged with food stamp fraud, grand theft, and submitting a fake instrument for filing.
