The body of a missing Naperville man was discovered in an Elmhurst quarry on Sunday, ending a nearly week-long search, authorities said.

Elmhurst police said the hunt for 28-year-old Gabriel De Sagun ended Sunday when a public safety drone discovered his body in the water of the east quarry. The DuPage County Coroner’s Office later identified the remains as De Sagun.
De Sagun was reported missing on July 20 after being last seen walking south on West Avenue between Second and Third Streets in Elmhurst.
According to authorities, De Sagun was dropped off earlier that day to recover his vehicle at an Elmhurst parking lot. A family member returned to Naperville, but De Sagun never came.
His vehicle was later discovered vacant in a townhome parking lot on the 200 block of North West Avenue.
Investigators received house surveillance video showed De Sagun walking south on the sidewalk along West Avenue immediately after being dropped off.
Authorities conducted a thorough search using public safety drones, K-9 teams, bloodhounds, a helicopter, watercraft, and officers from other agencies.
Authorities have not disclosed any other information about De Sagun’s death. The reason and manner of death have not been reported.
“On behalf of the Elmhurst Police Department, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Gabriel’s family and loved ones at this extremely difficult time,” stated Police Chief Mike McLean. “While the conclusion was not what anyone had hoped for, we appreciate the efforts of first responders and community volunteers who devoted many hours to the search. I’d also like to thank our mutual aid partners and the many members of our community who have exchanged information, shown support, and kept Gabriel and his family in their thoughts throughout the last week. We sincerely request that Gabriel’s family be given privacy while they grieve.
The inquiry is ongoing in collaboration with the DuPage County Coroner’s Office.
