A Leesburg woman was taken into custody for driving with a suspended license after nearly causing with another vehicle during a traffic stop.
Around 8:30 a.m. Sunday, an officer noticed a maroon Kia passenger car heading south on U.S. Hwy. 27 near County Road 466, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. A check of the license plate revealed that the registered owner, 47-year-old Tamara Reed, had her license suspended as of June 8 due to an unpaid traffic fine in Lake County.
The vehicle would not pass the police, so he braked to pull over and execute a traffic stop. As he did so, the vehicle quickly switched from the middle to the left lane, cutting off a Chevy SUV, forcing it to slam on the brakes to prevent a crash. According to the report, the car then pulled into the Super Wash parking lot at 229 US Highway 27.
The officer told Reed of the purpose for the traffic stop, and she was unable to provide her license. Her driving record includes three prior convictions for driving with a suspended license in Lake and Sumter Counties, spanning from February 2003 to March 2026, the report stated.
Reed was eventually arrested on the accusation of driving while license suspended (third or subsequent offense). She was booked into Lake County Jail and released after posting a $2,500 bond.
