Suspect in $100,000 gaming machine burglary ring taken into custody after 107 mph chase

A man who authorities have been searching for since declaring a big video gaming burglary ring earlier this month is now in custody after leading suburban police on a 107 mph chase that concluded in a foot pursuit on the Eisenhower Expressway, officials said.

Don Williams Jr., 20, is being jailed on felony weapons possession and aggravated flight and eluding charges, according to DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin. He also has an outstanding warrant in connection with a burglary ring that prosecutors claim stole more than $100,000 from gaming machines around Chicagoland.

The chase began around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, when Villa Park police attempted to stop Williams near Route 83 and St. Charles Road, according to Berlin. He claimed authorities targeted Williams for minor infractions and feared the vehicle had been used in a previous felony.

Williams first stopped, but allegedly sped away as the officer got out of his squad car. Berlin claimed he exceeded 107 mph in a 55-mph zone at Roosevelt Road and York Street. Oak Brook police used spike strips as Williams approached eastbound I-290, puncturing two of his tires. But the pursuit did not end there. Williams kept driving at 65 to 70 mph on two flat tires before slowing down and colliding with a guardrail on the freeway, Berlin reported.

According to Berlin, Williams and four other persons fled the vehicle following the collision. Police apprehended Williams after a brief foot chase. Inside the vehicle, officers claimed discovered a loaded Glock handgun with a 28-round extended magazine on the driver’s seat and another extended magazine in the backseat.

Earlier this month, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul issued charges against Williams and two other men in connection with a series of gaming machine burglaries that occurred in Cook, Will, and Grundy counties between October 2025 and July 2026. Authorities stated the thefts totaled more than $100,000.

While two of the accused — Devontay A. Brady, 30, of Maywood, and Anthony T. Shorter, 23, of Bellwood — were arrested at the time of the announcement, a warrant was issued for Williams.

The burglary probe also resulted in the arrest of Davon Meeks, a 23-year-old rapper who goes by the name VonOff1700. Meeks was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felon after a search warrant was executed in connection with the case, according to Raoul’s office.
