A former Chicago Public Schools (CPS) principal was sentenced to federal prison on Wednesday for his involvement in a multimillion-dollar fraud scam.
Brian Metcalf, 52, of Baltimore, Maryland, has consented to plead guilty to federal wire fraud charges, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois reported in a news release. Metcalf worked in Chicago before becoming the superintendent of schools in Indianapolis.
He was later convicted of creating forged bills for services that were never rendered, along with two others: 55-year-old Kimberly Maddox of Matteson and 59-year-old James Darnell Campbell of Frankfort.
Prosecutors claim the scam cost Chicago (almost $700,000) and neighboring Indianapolis (nearly $400,000) more than $1 million, which all three must repay in total ($1,099,200).
A federal judge sentenced Metcalf to a year and a half in jail. In July, the judge sentenced Maddox to two years in jail and Campbell to one year and a day.
