A shooting in Brooklyn Center involving four juveniles sparked a chase and led officers to recover a firearm with an extended magazine Friday evening.
The Brooklyn Center Police Department said officers responded to the 5600 block of Xerxes Avenue at around 5:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting in the area.
Two officers from outside law enforcement agencies were conducting a prisoner exchange in a nearby parking lot when they happened to witness the shooting, police said.
Responding officers determined that four juvenile males believed to be connected to the shooting had fled the area. During the pursuit, officers reportedly saw one of the males throw away an item.
Police established a perimeter, and a K-9 team searched the area, where officers found a handgun equipped with an extended magazine and recovered six or more spent cartridge casings.
Police believe one male was directly involved in the shooting.
One person reportedly arrived at a local hospital on their own with injuries described as non-life-threatening, according to police. Investigators have not yet determined their connection to the shooting.
The investigation remains active.
