Suspect charged in fatal shooting of man and woman at Houston apartment complex

Houston police detained and charged a 53-year-old man in connection with the deadly shooting of a man and woman at an apartment complex in Southwest Houston.

Derrick Duane Jackson has been charged with capital murder in the 228th State District Court, authorities said.

Officers responded to a shooting incident at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at the complex’s leasing office in the 9500 block of Ella Lee Lane. They discovered a 47-year-old guy and a 67-year-old woman unresponsive with several gunshot wounds.

Paramedics from the Houston Fire Department pronounced both victims deceased at the spot.

Following notification of the victims’ families, the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will announce their identities.

According to authorities, Jackson was identified as a likely suspect following further inquiry. Officers from the Midwest Patrol and Patrol Support Unit apprehended him on Friday. Jackson gave a statement to homicide detectives before being brought into Harris County Jail.

The investigation is underway.
