A man died after exchanging gunfire with another man after a dispute at the Addison Road Metro station on Monday afternoon, according to police.
Metro Transit Police responded to a reported shooting at the Addison Road station shortly after 2:30 p.m., according to a post on the social media platform X.
The Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department confirmed to DC News Now that medics took one person to the hospital in severe condition. A short time later, Metro Transit Police confirmed that the man had died at the hospital.
According to authorities, the man was arguing with another man outside the Metro station in the moments before the shooting. Police say both men then entered the Addison Road station and exchanged gunfire on the mezzanine.
Police arrived at Cabin Bridge Court, which is less than half a mile south of the Metro station, immediately following the incident. Neighbors told DC News Now police were looking for the culprit in their backyard. “The officers have been up and down the road, and there are helicopters flying everyplace; it’s just chaos right now,” said Milan Gomillion.
In April, a 61-year-old man was beaten to death with a pipe in the same Metro station. Neighbors are frightened about the violence near their home. It’s upsetting to see, considering I use the Metro frequently. Every weekend I attend events in D.C.; I always use the Metro. So that is my mode of transportation for going to Washington, DC. “It’s very sad to see, and it’s scary because I sometimes travel alone,” Gomillion added.
Immediately after the shooting, Metro said Blue and Silver Line trains temporarily skipped the Addison Road Metro station, with delays in both directions.
As of Monday evening, police were still seeking the other individual involved in the incident. Officials have not announced the identity of the man who died.
