Four police officers and an ex-officer are charged with exploiting their department’s Flock camera system.
All five policemen are charged with fraud and misconduct, with one also facing stalking charges.
According to investigators, the officer facing stalking charges would utilize the monitoring system to seek out women in an effort to “interact with them.” Another officer is suspected of using the system to locate his ex-wife’s car, which he searched for more than 950 times over a six-month period.
The four current officers have been suspended, and the police chief has recommended firing them. “People changed their habits and routes because they were suspicious of this conduct,” said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears. “Certainly it undermines the public’s level of trust in the system because I think the concern is, what are they tracking, and why are they tracking people?”
Furthermore, the mayor of Indianapolis stated that the city now intends to collaborate with police to enhance policies around Flock cameras. The goal is to keep it from happening again.
Another example of flock abuse occurred recently in Indiana, where a sheriff’s deputy is now facing hundreds of charges.
