A Central Florida teen was detained after a shooting that injured an innocent bystander.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested the teenager in connection with a shooting that injured one person in Brandon, near Tampa.
Last month, local deputies responded to an apartment complex on the 1200 block of Landon Preserve Circle after receiving reports of a handgun being discharged in public. Deputies arrived and discovered one victim who had been shot in the arm, according to law officials. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was sent to a local hospital for treatment.
The suspect, Key’rion Sincere Austin, was recognized by detectives as 17 years old.
Detectives discovered during the inquiry that Austin fired rounds at another group of people in the neighborhood. The victim, a bystander with no affiliation to either gang, was hit by gunfire.
“When you shoot a group of individuals, age is irrelevant. “What matters is that someone innocent was injured,” stated Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This teen made a decision that may have cost someone their life. Our detectives worked hard to identify the suspect and remove him from our streets. We are still dedicated to holding juvenile criminals accountable, just as we would anyone other who endangers our community.
According to HCSO, Austin was detained and faces charges of: Aggravated Battery Deadly Weapon, Attempted Murder in the Second Degree Firearm – Great Bodily Harm, and Possession of Weapon During the commission of a felony, improper display of a dangerous weapon or firearm, and discharge of a firearm in public or on private property.
