Two Lafayette men have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a multi-state operation that involved stolen vehicles and equipment.
Dennis Lloyd Sizemore, aged 55, was sentenced to five years in federal prison. Robert Gregory Brazell, 41, was sentenced to 33 months. Both will serve three years of supervised release.
Sizemore was ordered to pay $92,500 in restitution, while Brazell was had to pay $95,000.
According to federal officials, Sizemore and Brazell collaborated with Christopher Don Byerley and Adrienne King on a Louisiana-wide scheme. Other states included Mississippi, Alabama, and Texas.
The organization stole trucks and heavy equipment, which they then utilized or sold, according to the United States. Attorney’s office.
The stolen property includes the following:
- Tractors.
- Excavators.
- Forklifts.
- A pickup truck worth a combined total of more than $250,000.
According to investigators, the group modified or deleted the car identification numbers. They employed a chop shop, forged documents, fictitious business names, and stolen identities. This allowed them to sell stolen equipment while concealing what they were doing.
The investigation began following a shoplifting incident at Juban Crossing Shopping Center. Detectives with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office later discovered a stolen pickup truck. Inside, they found an unlicensed firearm silencer and a 9mm pistol. This vehicle was used by Byerley and King.
Officials stated that documents, emails, text messages, and photographs assisted investigators in locating the larger organization.
Byerley was previously sentenced to 115 months in federal prison for his role in the conspiracy and firearms crimes. King was sentenced to 48 months.
