A woman was taken into custody in Maryland after officials say her 2‑month‑old son succumbed to head trauma and severe dehydration.
Taylor Williams, 20, now faces a first‑degree child‑abuse charge that resulted in death, according to Baltimore City District Court records reviewed by Law&Crime.
The child victim has been identified as Malik Woodard by the Baltimore Police Department.
On August 31, 2025, officers raced to the intersection of Loch Raven Boulevard and Gorsuch Avenue in Baltimore after receiving a call about a “non‑breathing infant.” Paramedics rushed the baby to Johns Hopkins Pediatrics, where he was later pronounced dead.
Malik’s great‑grandmother told investigators she heard the infant making odd noises and struggling to breathe. She reported the problem to Williams, but, according to the charging documents cited by CBS affiliate WJZ, Williams instructed her to leave the room.
During her interview, Williams claimed she had stepped into the bathroom that morning and returned to find her son unresponsive. She said she called a nearby driver for assistance, dialed 911, and performed CPR, insisting that Malik had no prior medical issues.
An autopsy by the Baltimore Office of the Chief Medical Examiner revealed that Malik died from head trauma that caused brain bleeding, along with “severe dehydration and malnutrition.”
Following what police called an “extensive investigation,” detectives secured an arrest warrant for Williams. On October 5, officers apprehended her in the 300 block of Kane Street, booked her at the Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center, and she posted bond on Thursday, October 8.
Williams is slated to appear for a preliminary hearing on November 2.
