A man was apprehended for driving while intoxicated and evading arrest in Horizon City on Saturday, Oct.18.
According to the Horizon City Police Department, officers attempted to execute a traffic stop on 24-year-old Carlos Daniel Villatoro shortly before 3 a.m. after observing a black pickup truck cross an intersection without giving right-of-way, posing a potential accident risk.
An cop activated the emergency lights and sirens. Villatoro allegedly failed to stop and drove past a designated patrol vehicle, striking with its front driver-side bumper before fleeing.
Officers pursued the truck and eventually apprehended Villatoro near the intersection of Valentin Drive and Danube Drive.
Villatoro and a passenger were taken into arrest.
During the investigation, authorities reportedly saw symptoms of intoxication, such as a strong odor of alcohol and highly slurred speech.
Villatoro was transported for additional processing. Officers secured a blood search order after Villatoro refused to give a breath sample.
He was placed into the El Paso County custody Facility on accusations of driving while drunk and escaping arrest or custody using a vehicle.
A magistrate imposed a $7,500 cash bond for the DWI charge but no bond for the fleeing allegation because Villatoro was apparently already on bond in another felony case.
