A Baltimore man was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison after assaulting a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest in May 2025, according to prosecutors.
Demetris White, 44, was also sentenced to three years’ supervised release for assaulting, resisting, or impeding federal officials or employees.
According to court documents, White visited a Baltimore Social Security Administration office on May 19, 2025, to enquire about his disability benefit payments.
He had misplaced the Direct Express debit card he used to access them.
According to records, White became furious after a customer support person described how to receive a replacement card. The representative pressed the duress button, and security asked White to leave.
According to court filings, White verbally abused and threatened to physically assault and spit on security personnel before fleeing.
A federal law enforcement officer arrived and attempted to arrest White outside the building.
White first fought but was eventually allowed the police to handcuff him after the officer pointed a taser at him and threatened to use it if White continued to struggle.
According to papers, after being handcuffed, White headbutted the officer backwards, resulting in a cut to the officer’s lip, bleeding, and oedema.
