Minneapolis police say they have apprehended a suspect believed to have shot and killed a man on the Green Line light rail train earlier this month.
Jaquan Darrian Edwards, 30, was detained on Friday and is anticipated to be charged with second-degree murder, according to Minneapolis police.
“I appreciate the solid police work of our investigators and the partnership with Metro Transit in keeping our city safe,” said Interim Chief Billy Peterson of the Minneapolis Police Department. “Most importantly, our thoughts remain with the victim’s family and loved ones. I recognize that an arrest will not undo their loss or ease the pain they are experiencing, but we hope this development brings some measure of comfort and reassurance that we remain committed to seeking justice on their behalf. We will continue to stand with them as this case moves forward.”
According to investigators, the incident occurred around 9 p.m. on October 3, while the train was heading from Minneapolis’ Stadium Village station to St. Paul. The train arrived at the Westgate station.
While first responders sought to administer life-saving care, the man died on the site.
The Minneapolis Police Department and Metro Transit Police launched an investigation into the incident and named Edwards as a suspect.
