A woman and man are dead following a domestic-related murder-suicide investigation Saturday, according to the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office.
According to officials, Cherry Valley Police and firefighters responded to the 7500 block of Mike’s Place at noon to conduct a welfare check.
When detectives arrived, they discovered a running vehicle inside a closed garage. A deceased male was found inside the vehicle.
A search of the home was conducted, and a woman was discovered in the bathroom with several gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to investigators, six youngsters were present at the residence. They were evaluated by medical personnel and then put with family members.
On Monday, the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the woman and confirmed she died from gunshot wounds. Following examination on the male subject, it was discovered that he died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Based on preliminary findings, officials believe this occurrence is consistent with a domestic murder-suicide in which the woman died before the male committed suicide.
Officials said anyone experiencing domestic violence can get help at the Winnebago County Domestic Violence Assistance Center, 400 West State Street, Rockford, 815-516-2440, or the Rockford Family Peace Center, 315 N. Main Street, Rockford, 779-348-7600.
