Sales Tax Holiday for Back to School Shopping Coming for Ohio and West Virginia
RACINE, Ohio – Back to school shopping is just around the corner for Meigs County families. Both Ohio and West Virginia will be having sales tax holidays.
Ohio will have a sales tax holiday from Friday, August 5, 2022 at 12 a.m. to Sunday, August 7, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. During the holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:
- An item of clothing priced at $75 or less;
- An item of school supplies priced at $20 or less; and
- An item of school instructional material priced at $20 or less.
Items used in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday.
The West Virginia State Sales Tax Holiday will begin this year at 12 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2022 and will end at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, August 8, 2022. The West Virginia State Sales Tax Holiday begins each year on the Friday before the first Sunday in August and ends the following Monday. There is no limit on the amount of the total purchase. The qualification is determined by each individual item.
What items qualify for the sales tax holiday for West Virginia?
During the holiday, the following items are exempt from Sales and Use tax:
- Certain clothing with a purchase price of $125 or less
- Certain school supplies with a purchase price of $50 or less
- Certain school instruction material with a purchase price of $20 or less
- Certain laptop and tablet computers with a purchase price of $500 or less; and
- Certain sports equipment with a purchase price of $150 or less.
- Items purchased for use in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday.
