Sandy Starr, 81, of Beaver, Ohio, died Thursday October 27, 2022 at Grant Medical Center. He was born March 5, 1941 in Mingo County, WV, a son of the late Merl and Frances Starr. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Rita Joan Maynard and brother-in-law John Maynard. Sandy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sue Starr; three children, Theresa Van Meter (Michael) of Jackson, Ohio, Ethan Moore of Beaver, Ohio and Jessica Moore of Beaver, Ohio; one grandson, Joseph Van Meter (Kate) of Beaver, Ohio; three great-grandsons, Morgan Bridges, Michael Van Meter and Jonathan Van Meter; two sisters, Pamela Fisher (Michael) of Concord, California, Gloria Herda (Wolf) of Reno, Nevada; his aunt, Evelyn Farris of Charleston, WV, and a host of nieces and nephews, including one special niece, Rhonda Goss.
Sandy retired from AEP coal mines in Meigs County, Ohio. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Crum, WV. He was also an avid gardener, storyteller, and he enjoyed reading from his extensive library of books collected over 50 years.
The family would like to thank both the trauma and palliative care departments at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, for treating Sandy as if he were a member of their family. A special thanks goes to his trauma nurse, Micah.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with funeral services following at 1 p.m. Tuesday November 1, 2022 at the Paul’s Chapel Church located at 522 St. Rt. 776, Jackson, Ohio with Bro. Roger Maynard, Bro. Ray Williamson, and Bro. John Evans officiating. Burial will follow in the Paul’s Chapel Cemetery.
