Two men were apprehended and booked into Shelby County Jail after reportedly shooting a man in the left side of his chest, left arm, and left hand last Friday near Whitehaven, according to police.
Jermaine D. Kennedy and Ja’Quezz Lamonta Kennedy have both been charged with attempted first-degree murder and the use of a handgun during a serious felony.
On September 5, at about 1:50 a.m., in the 3700 block of Millbranch Road, a male victim was gravely injured after meeting with two persons he was hoping to acquire a pistol from.
The man informed police he was going to buy a Glock 19 handgun for $390, but he noticed one of the suspects wearing a hood and another wearing a facemask.
He said he knew they were going to rob him, so he declined to buy the weapon.
As he walked away, the victim stated that he turned around and saw one of the suspects aiming a black weapon at him.
The victim informed police that he began sprinting toward his brother’s apartment near the scene but was shot by Jermaine.
He was transported to Regional One Hospital in critical condition.
The victim eventually identified Jermaine as the shooter and his brother, Ja’Quezz, as the person he was texting with, using a photo lineup.
Jermaine appeared in court Tuesday at 9 a.m., and Ja’Quezz is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
Ja’Quezz’s bond is set at $175,000, but there is no bond for Jermaine yet.
