NEW EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT – CARRIE CHEEK, EHSIT

Pomeroy, Ohio – Hello Meigs County! My name is Carrie Cheek. I am the new Environmental Health Specialist in Training (EHSIT) at the Meigs County Health Department (MCHD). I have been here for a month. There are many facets to this job but sewage treatment systems have been my main focus. I enjoy working with the public and the staff here at the MCHD.

While not originally from Meigs County, I have lived here the last couple years. My husband, Robbie Calaway, and I live on the farm where he grew up in Chester. I grew up in Franklin Furnace in Scioto County, which is like here. After graduating high school, I went to the University of Rio Grande where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Chemistry. My first job was at the Lawrence Soil and Water Conservation District where I started as an education specialist, then became the floodplain administrator and wrote the storm water management plan for the County. After 14-1/2 years there I went on to work jobs such as owning/operating a hardware and feed store, substitute teaching for 8 years and coordinating the Meigs County Southeast Ohio Youth Mentoring Program. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and hanging out on the farm.
