Jean I. Sandy, 78, of Langsville, Ohio, passed away on July 28, 2023, after a short battle with cancer, with her family by her side.  She was the devoted wife of Eugene R. Sandy and loving mother of Beth (Rocky) Johnson of Langsville, Rod (Teresa) Sandy of Lancaster, Susan (Bill) Powell of Subury, and Cynthia Jo (Josh) Sigman of Delaware. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Jeanie was born on January 19, 1945, to two loving parents, Fred and Virginia Streets in Flemington, West Virginia. She was a bundle of joy from the very beginning. She enjoyed shopping, working in her flower beds, cooking for everyone, and attending Pickin’ N Parsons bluegrass festival, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.  After graduating from high school in 1963, she married her devoted husband of 60 years, Eugene (Bub), on June 29, 1963, in Volga, West Virginia.  The two of them were a match made in heaven, going on to have 5 children.  Being a mother was the most important thing in her life, a role that gave her much pride and joy. She was an excellent mom, supportive, kind, hilarious, and witty, and we will all miss her dearly.

She was always there for her kids, whether they needed help with homework or just a shoulder to cry on. She was a woman of strong faith and she instilled in them the importance of family, hard work, and doing what is right. She was a true role model who they will always look up to.

Jeanie was a kind, caring, and giving person who always put the needs of her family and friends before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. She was a source of inspiration to us all and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her husband and 4 children, her sister Janet (Tom) Kenney, of Philippi, her 7 grandchildren, Cory, Amanda, and Todd Johnson, Nikolaus McClellen, Tiffany Brown, Anissa Powell, Josie Sigman, and 15 great grandchildren. As well as the many “adopted” kids along the way, from nieces and nephews to camping buddies John, Joyce, and Kate Bowers, and Coach Tom Gutshall of Parsons, West Virginia, and many friends at McCoy’s One Stop in Vinton, Ohio.

Jeanie is predeceased in death by her parents, an infant son Willis Eugene, siblings, Pat (Paul) Sandy, Fred Jr, Richard, Bernard, Charles and Willard Streets, mother and father- in-law, Grump and Deloris Sandy, and sister-in-law Juanita (Sis) Hunt.

You will always be in our hearts, and we will never forget you. We love you so much. Rest in peace.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Wednesday August 2, from 2- 8 pm and on Thursday August 3, from 10am- 1 pm.  Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm with Speaker Ervin Mayle officiating.  Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
