A former Baltimore-area educator, who now serves as Superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools, has been apprehended by ICE after fleeing officers during a targeted operation.
When Ian Roberts was arrested, he was carrying a loaded handgun, $3,000 in cash, and a fixed blade hunting knife.
According to officials, he entered th-bladee nation from Guyana on a student visa in 1999 and was issued a final order of removal by an immigration judge in May 2024.
During a targeted operation on Friday, ICE officials approached Roberts’ vehicle after recognizing him, but he drove away.
Officers later spotted his vehicle abandoned near a wooded area, and State Patrol assisted with the search.
According to officials, Roberts had previously been charged with weapon possession on February 5, 2020.
Before moving to Des Moines, Roberts worked as an educator for Baltimore City Public Schools and Prince George’s County Public Schools.
He also served as the founding principal of Baltimore’s Friendship Academy of Science and Technology.
