A Long Beach, California, resident has been sentenced to ten years in federal prison after being convicted of methamphetamine trafficking charges. According to KTLA, Derrick Polk, 62, was sentenced after being found guilty of conspiring to distribute and possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute large amounts.
The Department of Justice revealed that Polk was involved in a drug conspiracy in the Western District of Pennsylvania from April 2019 until July 2021. During this period, it was revealed that he planned to distribute 500 grams or more of a meth mixture. Polk also had an equally considerable amount with the aim to distribute in April 2021, according to a Justice Department news release.
Law enforcement intercepted communications using a federal wiretap, capturing Polk purchasing the narcotics and later distributing them to others. Polk is sentenced to five years of supervised release after serving his sentence, and he must surrender a considerable sum of $399,000, a bevy of Rolex watches and jewels worth more than $150,000, and a weapon.
This case falls within the purview of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces. Acting US Attorney Troy Rivetti praised the coordinated work of several agencies in bringing Polk to justice, including the FBI’s Laurel Highlands Resident Agency, Homeland Security Investigations, and state and local Pennsylvania police. The significant success of this case demonstrates the government’s ongoing commitment to detecting, interrupting, and destroying high-level narcotics operations that harm communities across the country.
