Carlos Yadiel Baez-Nieves, an Orange County man, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release for murdering two women in East Orange County last year. Baez-Nieves, 26, was convicted of strangling Fatia Flowers, 41, and Nichole Daniels, 44, whose bodies were located along a junction in East Orange County, across from each other.
After a comprehensive investigation, authorities linked the murders to Baez-Nieves using evidence such as surveillance footage of his white Ford F-150 and his eventual confession during an unrelated traffic stop. According to ClickOrlando, Baez-Nieves “targeted the most vulnerable women he could—transient women who traded sex for money.” The sheriff’s office stated that the meticulous nature of the crimes aroused fears that Baez-Nieves could have become a serial murderer if he had not been apprehended.
“I’m confident that through their vigilance in these cases, our detectives prevented Baez-Nieves from becoming a prolific serial killer,” stated Sheriff John Mina in a statement sent to FOX 35 Orlando. The sheriff’s office interpreted Baez-Nieves’ conduct as that of a man who believed he was targeting women who were unlikely to be missed by society.
Baez-Nieves, who migrated to Central Florida from Puerto Rico in 2020, has lived near the crime scene, according to his biography. Detectives have intimated that they are not ruling out his involvement in other unsolved murders, underlining that Baez-Nieves dumped his victims at the same crossroads, a point that police have yet to explain.
