A Poynette man was sentenced to eight years in jail on Monday after pleading guilty to the homicide of a 37-year-old Lodi man in December 2024, according to online court records.
Mathew T. Jopke died on the scene after a crash on North Stoughton Road and State Highway 30 at 3:56 a.m. on December 6. Prosecutors claimed that Nicholas Nesthus, the 36-year-old driver, blew a red light and crashed into two cars while entering Highway 30 into Stoughton Road.
Nesthus pled guilty to homicide charges in July. During his sentencing, he was also ordered to serve six years of extended supervision, maintain absolute sobriety, and get full-time job and/or education, among other requirements.
