A man has been taken into custody after an alleged road rage shooting on I-25 in northern El Paso County on Monday, October 13.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO), dispatchers received a 911 call just after 7:30 p.m. on Monday from a caller who reported being shot at while driving northbound on Interstate 25 in northern El Paso County. The caller was able to provide a comprehensive description of the suspect’s vehicle, as well as the license plate number, as it left El Paso County and entered Douglas County.
EPSO said that officers from the Castle Rock Police Department were able to locate and stop the car. Allen Casias, 60, the driver, was seized after a handgun was discovered in his possession.
EPSO deputies arrived to Castle Rock and interrogated Casias, who acknowledged to pulling the gun following a road rage incident.
Casias was arrested and transferred back to El Paso County, where he is currently being jailed on a $2,000 bond for felony menacing.
“There is absolutely no excuse for road rage. It endangers innocent lives,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “Brandishing or discharging a firearm on our roadways is an act of recklessness that will be met with zero tolerance. I commend our deputies and the Castle Rock Police Department for their quick coordination in ensuring this violent and irresponsible behavior was stopped before anyone was seriously harmed.”
