A 24-year-old Polk City woman is facing many charges, including battery by strangulation and battery on a firefighter, after a volatile incident late Wednesday evening.
Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) responded to a battery report at a residence on Cypress Trails Drive around 10:30 p.m. on October 15th.
Upon arrival, deputies investigated the victim’s claims, which included being punched, bitten, and choked by the defendant, Laylani Jonquille Sullivan. The victim reported that Sullivan was highly intoxicated and unclothed when they were outside the residence.
When deputies attempted to apprehend Sullivan, she apparently fought. A female firefighter from Polk County Fire Rescue (PCFR) attempted to shield Sullivan, but he allegedly hit the firefighter in the chest. The firefighter was not wounded during the incident.
Sullivan was then arrested and taken to the Sheriff’s Processing Center. She has been officially charged with battery by strangulation, battery on a firefighter, resisting with violence, and resisting without violence.
