Bloomington, IN — A busy game-day morning turned into gridlock for Hoosier fans en route to Memorial Stadium after a fatal crash on northbound I-69 just north of the Sample Road interchange. Indiana State Police are investigating the incident, which has triggered miles-long backups and significant delays.

With traffic already heavy for the Indiana vs. UCLA matchup, authorities have intermittently closed all lanes to allow emergency crews to conduct their investigation and clear debris. Drivers are being urged to steer clear of the area and use alternate routes into Bloomington.

Fans traveling from Indianapolis or other northern locations should consider leaving I-69 early. State Road 37, State Road 46, and westbound Sample Road are viable detours toward campus. Real-time updates are available via navigation apps and INDOT’s 511 map.

As of midmorning, ISP troopers, Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies, and local fire departments remain at the scene. Expect slowdowns on feeder roads and near Bloomington’s city limits as game traffic builds toward kickoff.
