Granby, CO — A fatal collision involving multiple vehicles led authorities to close U.S. Highway 40 in both directions near Granby on Friday night, according to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred around 8 p.m. on October 24, 2025, near milepost 214, just east of City Market. Officials confirmed that one person died in the incident.
Colorado State Patrol is conducting a full investigation at the scene, and the highway is expected to remain closed for several hours while troopers document and clear the area.
County Road 55 (Cottonwood Pass) is currently serving as an alternate route in both directions, though officials caution that the detour is not recommended for commercial vehicles due to terrain and road conditions.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and check the Colorado Department of Transportation’s COtrip.org for real-time updates on closures and traffic conditions.
As of Saturday morning, the victim’s identity has not been released, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
