Baltimore, MD — A push of cooler air late Saturday will set the stage for patchy frost, prompting the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington to issue a Frost Advisory overnight for parts of north-central Maryland.
The advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday, mainly for communities north of Interstate 70 where the growing season remains active. Temperatures are expected to dip into the 32°F to 38°F range, allowing areas of frost to develop by daybreak.
Forecasters note that a general increase in cloud cover should limit widespread freezing. However, thinner clouds north and east of the metro area could still permit frost formation—especially across northeast and central Maryland and within sheltered valleys of the Alleghenies.
While the growing season has already ended across northern and central Virginia, eastern West Virginia, and western Maryland, gardeners in central Maryland should take precautions to protect sensitive plants Saturday night.
Conditions will moderate through Sunday afternoon, and mostly sunny, milder weather is expected to return early in the week.
