Deputy’s Notebook: Jan.29-Feb.4, 2017

Editor’s note: The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office Deputies respond to all sorts of calls. The notebook is a listing of the public record of those calls.

On Jan. 29, 2017 the Deputies responded to a report of an unruly juvenile.
Unruly juvenile – Deputy Hupp responded to a residence in Long Bottom in reference to an alleged unruly juvenile. A report was taken and Children Services was contacted.

Deputies responded to an alleged assault on Jan. 30.
Assault – Deputies were called to a residence in Racine due to an alleged assault that had taken place. Upon arrival, statements were taken from both parties involved. A report was forwarded to the Prosecuting Attorney’s office for consideration of criminal charges.
Theft – Deputy Perry received a report of a theft that had taken place on Loop Road. The caller stated that he had a chainsaw taken sometime in the last couple days. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office.

On Feb. 1, the Meigs County Sheriff’s Deputies handled several calls including a panic alarm at a local business.
911 Hand up – Sgt Griffin was dispatched to a 911 hang up call on Harmon Rd. There was nobody at the residence and it appeared to have been abandoned.
Alarm – Deputy Snoke was dispatched to the 124 Mart on a panic alarm. When Deputy Snoke arrived and spoke with the employees everything was ok. It is believed one of the employees hit the alarm with their belt buckle.

Sex offender – Sgt Patterson registered two sex offenders.
Investigate complaint – Sgt Griffin took a report from a male subject stating that someone had used his identity to obtain a credit card. The credit card company was contacted and an investigation is pending.
Suspicious Person – Deputies responded to 30982 S.R. 325 in reference to a Suspicious Person. On Deputies arrival, a cell phone and loaded firearm was found at the property but the person had left the scene.

The Deputies were busy with multiple calls on Feb. 2 including reports of prowlers and various disputes.
Probatio violation– Sgt Patterson and Court Officer Larry Tucker went to a residence in Letart Falls and took Teri Carmichael into custody on an alleged probation violation.
Property dispute – Deputy Myers was dispatched to a residence on SR689 about items being removed from a person’s property without permission. After Deputy Myers spoke with all parties involved it was determined the property was sold by one family member, but another family member went to the residence and started removing some items, apparently un-aware of the sale.
Prowlers– Sgt Patterson is investigating a complaint filed by Betty Manley who reported that someone has been trespassing on her property and harassing her. Sgt Patterson collected evidence at the scene and a suspect has been identified. The name was not released, but it was reported charges are pending.
Domestic – Deputy King investigated an alleged domestic between a father and his juvenile son on New Hope Rd. The juvenile involved was charged with Domestic and later released to his Grandparents.
Sex offender– Sgt Patterson registered two sex offenders.
Unauthorized Vehicle on Roadway– Deputy Chris Jones stopped a male on a motor scooter on State Route 124 Portland. The driver was cited.

On Feb. 3, the Deputies responded to several calls including an alleged burglary.
Probation violation– Sgt Patterson and Court Officer Larry Tucker checked the Middleport residence of probationer, Viki Brown, 59, and allegedly found an illegal firearm in the residence. The firearm in question was confiscated and charges are pending.
Alarm- Deputy Snoke was dispatched to an alarm at Banks Construction on State Route 7. Deputy Snoke checked the building and everything appeared to be secure. The cause of the alarm is unkown.
Court papers– Deputy Snoke served two court papers.
Suspicious person- Deputy Snoke, Deputy Barnhart and Deputy Hupp all responded to the Portland area after receiving a report of a suspicious person around the Portland Park, who fit the description of a subject that was involved in a Burglary at a residence in the same area, that occurred overnight. Deputies were able to track the suspect down, through tips received from several concerned citizens, and arrested Travis Klein, 46, of Pomeroy. Travis is being held in Middleport Jail pending his arraignment on a Burglary charge.
Disturbance – Dispatch received a call advising of a possible domestic with shots fired on SR. 681 near Snowville. All Deputies on duty were dispatched to the scene. When officer arrived on scene three males were found at the residence and detained. The complainant was located a few miles from the scene in her vehicle where she had driven for cell phone service to make the call for help. After an investigation, it was determined that no domestic had occurred. Two of the detained males were found to be uninvolved and released. The disturbance was over a child custody matter and the reported gun shot was from several hours earlier and unrelated to the incident. During the investigation of the call it was determined that no criminal offense had been committed but it was discovered that the male involved in the incident had made what was to be determined as credible threats to harm himself. He was transported to Holzer Meigs ER to be medically cleared and for a mental health evaluation. No further action was taken on this call.
Gun Shots – Jessica Rosseler, of Jones Road, Shade, Ohio called and reported that her boyfriend had heard two gun shots near their house and believes one had hit the residence. Sgt. Mohler responded to the scene and took a report about the incident. The residence was checked and evidence was found that it had been struck by a bullet. The area was patrolled around the home and no one was found to be in the area. No further action was taken on this call.

On Feb. 4, among other things, Deputies took in two application for concealed carry permits.
Court papers- Deputy Snoke served three court papers.
Traffic stop- Deputy Snoke stopped Billy McCullough III, age 46, of Paris Kentucky, on US33 near Portland Road and issued a citation for 69/55.
Concealed carry– Deputy Snoke took in two applications for a concealed weapon permit.
Assault– Chad Abram, a referee at the Meigs -Eastern ball game contacted the sheriff’s office, advising that a fan had become unruly and had physical contact with him. The fan is still at the school. Deputies were sent to the school and made contact with the Abram. The suspect had left before the officers arrived and Mr. Abram was not injured so he opted not to file a report. No further action was taken.
