State Controlling Board OKs Funding for Ohio University, Hocking College Initiatives

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The State Controlling Board has approved funding for projects at Ohio University and Hocking College, State Representative Jay Edwards announced today.

The board released $161,684 for improvements at Kanter Hall at Ohio University. A 2018 study found several areas of masonry were in need of renovation or replacement. The total project budget, including university funds, is $235,248, according to the Controlling Board.

The board also released $322,575 for the HVAC controls upgrade project at the Child Development Center, and agreed to a small change on a previously approved item for the Hwa Wei Lee Library Annex project.

The board also released was $316,204 for the advanced manufacturing program at Ohio University.

In this project, Ohio University will partner with MIBA Bearings US LLC, MIBA Sintering Group, IC3D Printers, Materials Resources LLC, PROOF Research’s Advanced Composite Division, and Universal Technology Corporation to reduce the cost of existing mature bearing manufacturing technology and improve performance of hydrodynamic thrust bearings by adopting and advancing existing composite materials and manufacturing technologies.

Also Monday, the State Controlling Board released $120,619 for the Hocking College campus police headquarters renovation project. The project will renovate the building and provide ADA access to the facility.

“Ohio University and Hocking College provide important educational and economic opportunities for many in our area, and I’m pleased the state is continuing to do its part to support our local institutions,” said Edwards (R-Nelsonville).
