Snowfall Amounts Around the Region, Officially a White Christmas

POMEROY, Ohio – According to the National Weather Service, an arctic cold front swept across the region during the afternoon and evening of Christmas Eve. Rain changed to a period of heavy snow as the colder air moved into the region with several inches of snow falling region-wide. This produced our first white Christmas in several years for many locations.

For the National Weather Service to categorize it as an official “White Christmas” it must meet certain criteria. The white Christmas official definition, “One inch or more of snow depth measured at 7 a.m. Christmas morning.” This does not necessarily mean snow has to fall on Christmas Day, and if snow accumulated after 7 a.m. it is not officially a white Christmas.

The following are unofficial observations taken during the past 24 hours for the storm that has been affecting our region. The National Weather Service extended appreciation to highway departments, cooperative observers, Skywarn spotters and media for these reports.
