Second round of banner project begins as Meigs County honors veterans

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio – The Banner Project to honor Meigs County veterans is not over yet. Organizers of the project have opened up taking applications for a second round of banners.

The volunteers behind the Armed Forces Banner Project prefer to keep their names out of it. They want the focus on the heart of the project, recognizing the county’s veterans. The group will add to the banners already displayed in the larger towns and villages in Meigs County.

The deadline for this round of applications for banners is Aug. 1, 2021. Anyone interested in submitting applications must have the application in by Aug. 1. Eligibility requirements for the application:

  • Born in, lived in, or is currently a resident of Meigs County, Ohio
  • Served/serving and honorably discharged from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National
  • Guard, or Merchant Marines.
  • Banners will be funded by donations and corporate sponsorship as a whole.

According to organizers, “Banners will be displayed on power poles along the streets in Pomeroy, Chester, Middleport, Racine, Reedsville, Rutland, Syracuse, and Tuppers Plains. All Banner locations shall be determined by the committee. An individual cannot select a specific location for their banner, however, a request can be made pertaining to the city; acknowledging all requests may not be granted due to space limitations.”

Additionally, to help pay for costs of the second round of banners, there is fundraiser going on as well. The Mini Banner Fundraiser is a garden flag version of the ones displayed throughout the county. For a donation of $25 each, the double sided 18”x22” vinyl flag is available to those that were on the first round of banners right away. Those from the second round applications are dependent on application completion, verification, and approval. Orders for the fundraiser are for a limited time only, through June 14, 2021. Pick up for the mini banners will be announced on the Meigs County Armed Forces Banner Project Facebook page when the fundraiser concludes.

Contributions to cover costs are always welcome by the organizers as well. Checks can be made payable to VFW POST 9053 with Meigs County Armed Forces Banner Project on the memo line, and sent to PO BOX 153, Tuppers Plains, OH 45783 as well as in person or online to any Farmer’s Bank Location referencing the Banner Project.
