The Church Mouse: Are you flying or waddling?

(Editor’s Note: Due to a technical error on the part of the Meigs Independent Press, the Church Mouse did not run last week. As a result, the MIP is running two columns this week.)

For this reason I make request to you, brothers, by the mercies of God, that you will give your bodies as a living offering, holy, pleasing to God, which is the worship it is right for you to give him.” – Romans 12:1

How are you at worshiping God?

I will bet your saying to yourself;

I go to church every Sunday. I pray several times a day. I read my Bible daily. I even have a devotional time every morning.

So you are thinking that you are doing ok or maybe even better than ok.  Well, here is a little story to stop and maybe make you re-think worship ideals.

“This is a parable–of a community of ducks waddling off to duck church on Sunday to hear their duck preacher. After they waddled into the duck sanctuary, the service began and the duck preacher spoke eloquently of how God had given the ducks wings with which to fly. He pounded the pulpit with his beak & said, “With these wings, there is nowhere we ducks cannot go!

There is no God-given task we ducks cannot accomplish! With these wings we no longer need walk through life. We can soar high in the sky! ¨ there was a great amount of quacking AMENS throughout the duck congregation. The duck preacher concluded his message by exclaiming,

“With our wings we can fly through life! WE……CAN…..FLY!!!!¨

 More ducks quacked out loud AMENS in response. Every duck loved the service. In fact all the ducks that were present commented on what a wonderfully convicting message they had heard from their duck preacher….and then they left the church and WADDLED all the way home.”

Too often we waddle away from worship the same way we waddled in….Unchanged!!

This should Not Be!

When we genuinely worship God we are responding to God’s giving grace. We allow Him to change. True worship then should be a time when we allow God to challenge us and to change who we are. To make us better able to serve Him.

Those who waddle into church should not waddle out!

Prayer- “Father God, Remind us when we come to church to worship, that we are there to praise and thank you for all the blessings that you give us.  Remind us that the trials we have in life are to help us grow to be more like you and to be worthy of living in heaven with you. Help us to stop waddling off in our own direction.  Lead us in your ways to change us to become better people who love and live for you. Amen.”
