Pittsburgh, PA — A broad Freeze Warning is in place tonight for western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio, and northern West Virginia as temperatures are expected to fall well below freezing.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh reports the alert will be active from midnight through 9 a.m. Sunday, with widespread lows hovering around 29°F.
The warning spans a large swath of the region, including Pittsburgh’s suburbs as well as New Castle, Butler, Washington, Morgantown, Uniontown, Zanesville, and Coshocton. Forecasters note the deepest chill will settle into valleys and sheltered rural locations, where frost and light ice are most likely to develop.
Officials caution that freezing conditions can damage unprotected outdoor plumbing and may kill sensitive plants. Residents are urged to cover or bring in vulnerable vegetation and insulate exterior pipes to reduce the risk of harm.
Temperatures should rebound after sunrise Sunday, with sunshine and afternoon highs reaching the 50s. Another cold start is possible early next week before a gradual moderation in temperatures.
