Northern Ohio Weather Alert: 2–5 Inches of Snow Expected Through Friday Night

Drivers in northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania should brace for deteriorating travel conditions Friday as snow, gusting winds, and possibly snow squalls move through the region ahead of an Arctic front.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Weather Advisory is in force from Friday morning until early Saturday for Cuyahoga and Geauga counties in Ohio, as well as southern Erie County in Pennsylvania. Snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are forecast in Cleveland and its surrounding suburbs, with somewhat higher amounts of 3 to 5 inches likely south of Erie. Winds might gust up to 35 mph, resulting in areas of flying snow and decreased visibility.

The road conditions are predicted to worsen throughout both the Friday morning and evening commutes. Brief snow squalls or stronger bursts of snow may form Friday evening as the Arctic front moves through, perhaps reducing visibility to less than a mile in a short period of time.

The advise covers cities in northeast Ohio such as Cleveland, Chardon, Middlefield, Chesterland, Bainbridge, and South Russell. In Pennsylvania, Edinboro, Union City, and Corry are among the affected communities. Untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses may become slick quickly.

Motorists are advised to slow down, allow extra travel time, and postpone unnecessary travels during peak snowfall. Transportation officials urge monitoring road conditions before leaving, as difficult driving may continue into Friday night before progressively improving early Saturday.
