A vehicle chase connected to a firearms investigation led to the temporary closure of the I-465 Eastbound entrance ramp from S. East Street on the south side on Tuesday afternoon.
As part of a guns investigation, the IMPD Southeast District’s Violence Reduction Team attempted a traffic stop soon after 3 p.m. near Pine Street and E. Southport Road. IMPD reported that the suspects ran from authorities during the traffic encounter, initiating a car pursuit.
Police successfully employed a precision immobilization method on the I-465 eastbound entry ramp and S. East Street, bringing the pursuit to an end. INDOT’s Traffic Management Center confirmed that the ramp closed around 3:18 p.m. and reopened about an hour later.
The suspect vehicle’s occupants, identified as two men and a young guy, were arrested. Officers then searched the vehicle and seized four firearms, including a handgun equipped with a device that converts it to a machine gun.
