Middleton mom detained on DUI charge at The Villages Charter School

A Middleton mother was detained for drunk driving at The Villages Charter School.

Marina Lambertson Pakes, 35, who lives in a family complex near the school, was discovered in the after-care pickup line at The Villages Charter K-8 campus at 5:30 p.m. Friday in a 2016 Subaru, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. She was sprawled over the center console, and the car’s engine was running. A deputy opened the automobile door but did not receive a response from Pakes. A deputy shook her shoulders, and she finally murmured a response.

It appeared that the California native had been drinking. One of the officers “could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath.” She agreed to participate in field sobriety exercises but staggered backward and nearly fell to the ground.

Deputies attempted to place her in a patrol cruiser, but she retreated. “Take me home,” she instructed the deputies.

She declined to take a breath test. She was also uncooperative when deputies attempted to administer the breathalyzer.

A criminal background check indicated that she had previously been convicted of driving under the influence in Sacramento, California, in 2012.

She was detained on allegations of driving under the influence, refusing to take a breath test, and resisting arrest. She was booked into Sumter County Detention Center and released after paying a $3,500 bond.
