Central Florida woman sentenced to 120 years in prison over $3.9 million embezzlement scheme

A Clermont woman has been charged with embezzling close to $4 million, according to the US Attorney’s Office.

According to a release from USAO, the woman, Colleen Kieran, 57, headed the accounting department of a Seminole County-based corporation.

Over the course of nearly 13 years, she allegedly used her position to transfer more than $3.9 million from the company’s accounts to her personal PayPal account, according to officials.

“After taking the money, Kieran spent it on clothing, travel, entertainment, dining, consumer electronics, and entertainment media,” the press release states. “Throughout the scheme, Kieran obtained loans in the company’s name to conceal the stolen money.”

Furthermore, Kieran submitted incorrect information about the company’s finances to her employers and the company’s tax preparer, investigators discovered.

On Tuesday, the USAO announced that Kieran had been charged with six counts of wire fraud under a federal indictment.

“The indictment also notifies Kieran that the United States is seeking the forfeiture of $3.9 million, the proceeds of the misconduct,” the announcement said.

If convicted, Kieran could face up to 20 years in federal prison for each count.
