Columbia woman Apprehended on Medicaid fraud charges

A Columbia woman has been taken into custody on Medicaid fraud charges, according to authorities.

According to the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office, Elisha K. Zimmerman, 35, was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on April 28.

Zimmerman is charged with one count of forgery worth less than $10,000 and one count of medical assistance provider fraud.

According to authorities, a Vulnerable Adults and Medicaid Provider Fraud unit investigation discovered that between April 4, 2025 and November 10, 2025, Zimmerman allegedly signed and submitted phony timesheets for services billed to the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

Zimmerman allegedly submitted bogus timesheets to her employer, Bright Start, falsely claiming to have provided in-home care services to a Medicaid beneficiary.

Officials stated that the Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case.

Under state law, the forgery charge is punishable by up to five years in prison and/or a fine, at the discretion of the court. The medical aid provider fraud accusation is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to three years in prison and a $1,000 fine.
